The Muttrah Souq Muscat is the oldest traditional market of Oman worth a visit. Located near the Muscat harbor, it is a unique place to get rare local goods. A myriad of spices, perfumes, colorful handicrafts, Arabian lamps, and frankincense fragrance greet you as you enter the dark alley. It is also called Al Dhalam Souq, which means the ‘Market of Darkness’, due to its crowded shops and intricate narrow lanes.
Take a walk by the Muttrah Corniche at sunset. Then stop and shop at the Muscat Souq and carry home rare gifts from the remote Arabian land. Wander through the nearby Gold Souq too and eye the yellow treasures. The Muttrah Souq timings are from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm with a break from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm On Fridays the break begins from 12:00 pm. It is busiest on weekends and often after 6:00 pm.
